Do I need to replace my drive socket?
The drive socket is a wear item and requires periodic replacement based on use. Vitamix® recommends inspecting drive sockets and centering pads weekly using the
Blender Care & Maintenance Guide. Check for nicks, cracks, or gouges in the outer surface. If any are present, replace. Inspect the inner gear teeth of the drive socket. If worn, replace.
Which replacement drive socket is right for my machine?
There are two drive sockets offered: one for the Vitamix XL®, and one for every other machine.
- Item number 000891 is the standard drive socket used for all Vitamix® Commercial products, except the XL.
- The Vitamix XL uses drive socket item number 015902.
Why are drive sockets important?
Drive sockets are fail-safe mechanisms used to couple the motor to the blade assembly. They are designed to protect the operator and the motor in the event a blade assembly is blocked from rotating.
Drive sockets also help reduce blending noise. A properly installed drive socket should be attached but slightly loose, allowing it to align with the container. They are the most commonly overlooked wear item and should be checked weekly.
What causes a drive socket to wear?
- Removing the container before the motor has completely stopped spinning
- A worn blade assembly gear
- Placing the container on the drive socket when it is spinning
- Rocking or tilting the container while blending
- A foreign object in the container
- Running the machine without the centering pad
- Using parts or products not approved by Vitamix®
Do I need to replace my blade assembly?
Blade assemblies are a wear item and require periodic replacement based on use. Contact Vitamix at 800.886.5235 or commercialts@vitamix.com if you need a replacement.
Replace the blade assembly if it:
- "Pinwheels" — rotates freely and effortlessly like a pinwheel in the wind
- Does not spin or is difficult to spin by hand
- Makes an audible noise when spinning
- Has vertical or side-to-side movement
- Has ball bearings visible where the seal should be
Inspect weekly per the Blender Care & Maintenance Guide:
- Check for nicks, cracks, or gouges in the outer surface
- Inspect the blade assembly gear — teeth should be deep with continuous edges
- Check the bottom of the blade assembly below the gear — replace if the seal is torn, missing, or lifting
- Rotate the blade by hand, feeling for smooth, consistent, light resistance
- Push up and down (vertically) on the gear between your fingers — any movement means replace immediately
What causes a blade assembly to wear?
- Foreign objects in the container while blending
- Removing or placing the container on the machine while the drive socket is spinning
- Operating the machine without the centering pad
- Rocking or tilting the container while blending
- A worn drive socket
- Soaking in bleach sanitizer above 100 ppm
- Placing in a dishwasher
- Using parts or products not approved by Vitamix®
- Blending gritty products like sand
What can I do to maximize the life of my machine?
What can I do to prevent the machine from overheating?
- Perform the recommended preventative maintenance steps
- Avoid prolonged blending of extra-thick ingredients
- Follow program instructions outlined in the manual
- Keep at least 12 inches of open space around the blender
What if the unit shuts off while blending?
The motor is designed with thermal overload protection, which senses when the motor has overheated and automatically stops it. Depending on how hot the unit became, it may take an hour or more to cool down. Once cooled, the thermal overload protection device will close and allow the unit to operate again. If this continues, contact Vitamix at 800.886.5235 or
commercialts@vitamix.com.
What sanitizer does Vitamix® recommend?
Vitamix recommends using only a bleach sanitizer at 100 ppm on polycarbonate containers.
Why is sanitizer strength important?
Vitamix recommends regularly using a test strip to check sanitizer strength. An overly strong concentration will cause:
- Milky or chalky appearance of containers
- Hairline cracks in container edges or handles
- Brittle containers
- Bubbling or peeling of container
- Blade assembly bearing seal failure
- Rusty retainer nuts
My container is brittle, cracking, chalky, milky, bubbling, peeling, or has rust on the retainer nuts. What is causing this?
The sanitizer strength is too strong, or sanitizer is being used in conjunction with a high-temperature dishwasher. Bleach sanitizer should be 100 ppm for polycarbonate containers.
Note: Use of improper sanitizer or sanitizer strength may void the container and blade assembly warranty.
How is the 30% reduction in blending time achieved?
A combination of factors contribute: dual blade construction, innovative container shape, high-efficiency motor with increased thermal capability, 20A system, and improved programming all work together.
What is the 30% blend time reduction in comparison to?
The reduction is in comparison to The Quiet One®, and was observed in all blends tested. Factors like ingredients and programming may affect results — custom programming can make some blends even faster.
What's unique about Quick & Quiet's blade construction?
Quick & Quiet has a dual blade construction with a secondary blade for low volumes. This doubles the cutting edge for faster, more frequent cuts. The top blade has an aggressive pitch that helps direct flow and cut ingredients.
Is the sound dampening similar to The Quiet One?
The sound enclosure is the same as The Quiet One. Because of Quick & Quiet's larger motor, extra foam was added in the motor base for additional sound dampening.
How does Quick & Quiet achieve consistency with tough blends?
Its more powerful motor, innovative container and blade design, updated controls, and 20A power work together to handle tough recipes more aggressively and consistently.
Quick & Quiet has 40 programs — what value do the additional programs add?
The additional programs give customers more versatility, particularly those who need many presets or want to offer more difficult recipes like smoothie bowls and lower volume blends.

What is Quick & Quiet's warranty?
Quick & Quiet has a 4-year or 700-hour warranty, whichever comes first. Hour tracking for both the motor and container makes maintenance easier.
Fluid is pooling inside the sound enclosure and seeping out. Why?
There are drain channels to move liquid away from the motor shaft, but none to move liquid out of the sound enclosure. Remove the liquid using a soft cloth, then clean with warm, soapy water.
How do I install the sound enclosure?
Make sure the sound reducing pad is in place first. Place the back cover on top of the pad — the earth magnets inside the motor base will hold it. Install the door by spreading the hinge points and sliding them over the hinge detents on the sides of the back cover.
How do I remove the sound enclosure?
The enclosure is held by magnets. First, remove the door by spreading the hinge points away from the hinge detents. Then place one hand on the back of the motor base and the other on the top corner of the back cover. Pull the top corner diagonally toward the front opposite corner.
Do I have to remove the sound reducing pad or centering pad to replace the drive socket?
No. The drive socket can be removed or installed without removing these items.
My sound enclosure door will not open. What should I do?
Juice, sugars, or mixes spilled on the sealing gasket may bond the door closed. Remove the entire enclosure and soak it in a warm soapy water solution.
Is the sound enclosure dishwasher safe?
No. The sound enclosure is made from Tritan™ polymer, which is not dishwasher safe.
Is the sound reducing pad dishwasher safe?
No. High dishwasher temperatures will distort and possibly swell the pad.
If I put the sound reducing pad in a dishwasher and it becomes distorted, is it ruined?
No. Place it on a dry, flat surface free from excessive heat, and it will return to its normal shape after a few days.
How do I remove the sound reducing pad for cleaning?
After removing the sound enclosure, use your thumb to roll one of the front corners of the pad upward and pull the gasket diagonally toward the opposite rear corner of the motor base.
Will sanitizers affect the sound reducing pad?
No. Light cleaning with a sanitizer will not hurt the pad. Do not leave it soaking in sanitizer.
Can I soak the sound reducing pad in water overnight?
No. The Sorbothane® material will swell and become distorted. If this occurs, place it on a dry, flat surface free from excessive heat — it will return to normal after a few days.
Will acidic fruit juices, sugars, or water affect the rubber components?
No. All materials are specifically selected for their performance and tested for tolerance of such ingredients.
Which containers work with The Quiet One®?
The Advance®, 64-ounce Standard, 48-ounce Standard, and 32-ounce Standard containers all work with The Quiet One.
Can fluid seep into the motor base and damage internal components?
No. Seals beneath the drive socket and base plate, combined with the sound reducing pad's lip, seal the base plate. Drain channels funnel fluids away from the motor shaft.
How can I tell how much my machine is being used?
There are three ways to measure use: a motor life timer (total hours of motor operation), a total cycle counter (number of times the machine has been cycled), and a resettable count meter (for comparing blends to register receipts).
To access on The Quiet One®: with the machine off, hold down the number 2 program button and turn the machine on. Continue holding for 7–10 seconds as it cycles through temperature and cycle count. See your Owner's Manual for full instructions.
How do I know if my machine is about to overheat?
Turn the machine off and hold the number 2 button for 7–10 seconds. Under normal operation, the display will read "Temp: Norm." If not, leave the machine off until the temperature returns to normal. You can also run the unit without a container but with the sound enclosure door closed to circulate warm air out and bring cool air in.
